Choosing Body Positivity

When you have spent so many years talking yourself down about the way your body looks, picking at everything that you have condemned as a flaw; that negative mentality becomes second nature to you and as we know, old habits can be hard to shake. But how unhappy is that kind of thinking making you?

Let's be honest, loving your curves or maybe your tiny boobs is not as easy as a simple click of the fingers. The world we live in today relies on visual stimulation, so it's only natural that at some point or another, we succumb to the pressure of meeting the ideals of current beauty trends and socially constructed ideas of the 'perfect body'.

*Cue big ass yawn*

I'm so tired! Epiphany reached:

Over the last few weeks I came to the realisation that happiness is a choice. Either we value and celebrate what we have, or we continue to live sad little lives being disappointed that we aren't meeting the unfair expectations we constantly put on ourselves. I am committing myself to choosing happiness every time!  So what does that mean for this ever changing body of mine? It means that I'm actively changing my mindset to start challenging the insults I normally through at my less than flat tummy, or the stretchmarks I've picked up along the way, and start celebrating them for what they are: a gem of a blessing.

You can lose all the weight in the world, but none of it will be enough if you aren't in love with what you already have. Healing cannot truly take place until you conquer that negative body image, and start speaking to all your wobbly bits with love. Think about it...how often does the definition of a 'beach body' change? Every damn week! It is impossible to keep up with that, when half of the time, most of the high profile people we see as 'body goals' have had some sort of surgery done and pass it off as the results of some sort of skinny tea. Now that more of us are challenging modern beauty standards, there are women now running back to their doctors to have their butt implants removed and boobs reduced, because they have realised that it is OK to be regular old, naturally curvy/skinny you.

Body Positivity will feed your soul better than any diet pills can.
Look in the mirror and smile instead of criticise.
Speak positive thoughts, even if they never leave your head, because that's the very place self-love starts.
